Odoo 19 Gift Cards and eWallets: governed customer credit

For an Odoo business in Belgium or France, a gift card is not a discount: it is prepaid value that must be sold, tracked and redeemed without losing the remaining balance. With Odoo 19 Enterprise, gift cards and eWallets can connect sales, eCommerce and Point of Sale.

Select the right mechanism

A gift card sells or gives prepaid value; an eWallet more commonly carries store credit linked to a customer, including after a refund or goodwill gesture. Do not repurpose a pricelist or discount for these cases: the dedicated program retains the code, balance and expected transactions. Define validity, allowed channels, refund policy and business ownership upfront.

Configure one coherent program

Enable promotions, gift cards and loyalty in the relevant app, then create the gift-card or eWallet program. Restrict it to the points of sale and websites that are ready to accept it. For Odoo Belgium, Odoo France and Odoo Enterprise, align labels, offered amounts, terms and accounting treatment with finance and commercial teams before launch.

Protect the omnichannel journey

A code should be easy to present but hard to misuse. Do not let staff create credit outside a controlled process, and review who can adjust a balance or reissue a code. Link the customer when the policy requires it, without forcing that relationship for an anonymous gifted card. In eCommerce, also confirm the payment methods and countries actually available at checkout.

Test sale, redemption and exceptions

Underside’s fictional scenario: a Brussels retailer sells a €50 card, of which €18 is spent in store and the balance online. A customer then receives an eWallet after returning an item. The team should be able to explain the balance, channel and originating document for every movement.

• Sell a gift card at Point of Sale and online, then retrieve its code and balance.
• Redeem only part of the balance, then complete payment with another method.
• Test redemption on each active channel and the response to an expired or depleted code.
• Create an eWallet after a return in line with commercial policy and verify the customer link.
• Review adjustment permissions, expected entries and exception reconciliation.
